New tariffs SSD Storage VPS

A few days ago we launched two new lines of large disk VPS tariffs: SSD Storage VPS и Windows SSD Storage VPS.
Unlike classic HDD Storage VPS, the new lines use a disk system based on fast Enterprise SSDs assembled in RAID 10 array. Thanks to this new tariffs can be recommended not only as servers for data storage or backup, but also as main servers for your projects. Simply put, the SSD Storage VPS lineup is a full analog of our regular VPS, only with more disk space and no VM (virtual machine) backup option. These tariffs can also be considered as a replacement for a full dedicated server. The advantages of each option will be described below.

The main advantages of basic VPS tariffs:

  • economy when small disk space is required;
  • ability to quickly change the configuration;
  • from 1 vCPU to 12 vCPU without changing the server: load increased - raise, load decreased - lower;
  • ability to create VM backups.

The main advantages of High CPU VPS:

  • high-performance processor core;
  • ability to quickly change the configuration;
  • ability to create VM backups.
It is recommended to use this tariff line if you have resource-intensive tasks in 1 thread. Such operations are performed faster on a single high-performance core than on several slightly lower-performance cores.

The main benefits of SSD Storage VPS:

  • large disk space from 500 GB to 3 TB on SSD;
  • ability to quickly change the configuration;
  • from 1 vCPU to 12 vCPU without changing the server: load increased - raise, load decreased - lower;
  • is the closest analog to a dedicated server.

The advantage of all VPS tariffs over dedicated servers:

  • there is no need to monitor hardware status;
  • high reliability of the disk subsystem due to the use of 4 Enterprise-class disks in the RAID array;
  • excellent performance of the disk subsystem;
  • processor cores performance not inferior to a dedicated server.

Advantages of a dedicated server:

  • ability to get disk system more than 3 TB (restriction for VPS);
  • possibility of obtaining a wide channel, up to 5 Gbit/s.

Disadvantages of a dedicated server:

  • need to monitor the condition of the hardware, especially the disks;
  • impossibility to change the configuration without shutting down the machine, which is at least half an hour simple;
  • impossibility to create backups of the entire server;
  • minimum mirror requires 2 disks, which increases the cost of the server;
  • HDD servers do not provide the disk system performance required for today's world.

It is recommended to use a dedicated server in the following cases:

  • when you need a large amount of disk space;
  • at high channel loads;
  • with a very heavy CPU load;
  • for other specific tasks, such as virtualization.

For comparison you can take, for example, a dedicated server costing 54.74 EUR:
Xeon E3-1230v6 / 16 GB RAM / 1 TB HDD
and SSD Storage VPS for 35.00 EUR:
4 vCPU / 8 GB RAM / 500 GB SSD
or even for 43.00 EUR:
4 vCPU / 16 GB RAM / 500 GB SSD

CPU performance on a dedicated server will be only 25-30% higher than on a VPS. That is, with approximately the same processor, we get a more productive disk, get rid of the need to monitor the disk, and even for less money.
If we take the same dedicated server, but with 500 GB SSD, the price will be 60.79 EUR. But at the same time we still have no mirroring and in case of failure of one disk we lose all data. And with two disks the server will cost 70.69 EUR, although the same 500 GB disks are available.

Each service is designed for specific tasks. Make the right choice. And if you don't know what to choose, contact our experts.
