Minimum requirements for operating systems

31 Jul 2025, 12:22:14
When ordering a VPS, some operating systems cannot be selected with 1 GB RAM or 10 GB of disk space. This is due to the requirements of the OS itself, as well as the pre-installed control panels.

Due to insufficient RAM on the VM, the system may receive an operating system kernel error, the so-called kernel panic, or worker processes may be killed by the OOM Killer mechanism. To eliminate, or at least reduce the probability of such errors, some operating systems are not available with minimum parameters.

Minimum resource requirements for Linux distributions

  • AlmaLinux 9 is available for selection with 2 GB RAM and more. According to information on the official website of the OS developer at least 1.5 GB RAM is required.
  • OS with pre-installed ISPmanager 6 panel is available for selection with 2 GB RAM or more. According to information on the ISPmanager website the following is required: for the panel itself 1 GB RAM, if there are sites from 2 GB RAM, and for a large number of sites from 3 GB RAM. And the recommendation is - at least 4 GB of RAM and 2 processor cores.
  • OS with pre-installed Plesk panel is available for selection with 2 GB RAM or more. According to Plesk documentation at least 1 GB + 1 GB swap is required. And if there is no swap - 2 GB RAM. There is also a disk requirement, which is also indicated on the developer's website - from 20 GB, since the software takes up quite a lot of disk space.
